Departing the Royal Suva Yacht Club for Makogai Island, some 70 miles NNW of Suva.

 

Visit to Makogai Island to arrange for delivery of about 100 baby Giant Clams with the Fiji Ministry of Fisheries. The Fishery and marine research station was established in 1975 to promote freshwater aquaculture development in Fiji, with a main focus on reintroducing the giant clam. From 1911 to 1969, Makogai had been the largest leper colony in the Pacific with over 4,000 lepers coming thru the island for rudimentary treatment.
