Departing Kia Island it was a day sail inside the reef to the shallow bight at Navidamu. We had to anchor nearly a mile off shore with only 2 fathoms under the keel.

The Altrusa Society in Nelson had asked us to transport 20 cases of books to the school at Navidamu. We delivered the books to a very thankful school principal. The books more than doubled the size of their library. The children joyously sang us songs as their gift back to us. And their overwhelming gratitude made the difficulties in organizing this journey insignificant at that moment. Most of us went onto to take a tour of the village, which resulted as usual in a sevusevu in the community hall. In addition, the village spokesman requested our tropical agricultural specialist, Esava, to do a lecture to a very keen community.
