Carrie Martin - Biography

Carrie Martin
Director of Honor Journey and Honor Fiji

An international traveler and volunteer, Carrie has explored such regions as Antarctica, the South Pacific, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, the Middle East, and throughout North America. Her life's experiences have given her an exceptional appreciation for cultural diversity and the beauty of the natural world. Carrie has been instilled with a profound desire to support the preservation of the great legacies of Indigenous Peoples, often working directly within their communities. Examples of events and projects have included:

  • Honor and Healing our First Nation's Peoples Roundtable, a post-Parliament of World Religions event at Millersville University on October 10, 2010
  • The Pueblo Honoring Journey, featuring the Tewa Dancers from the North/the Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo. University of Pennsylvania and other regional universities, 2009.
  • The Rising Nation Journey a partnership of brotherhood between the Lena'pe Tribe of Pennsylvania and organizations, educational institutes, and museums for the purpose of cultural preservation and the protection of sacred sites along the Delaware River. 2002
  • Earth Rhythm, in partnership with DEER CHASER-Lakota Dance Troupe, Native American educational and cultural celebrations. Events: 2000, 1999.

Examples of assistance within communities has included:

  • Sacred Mountains Foundation Inc. and Navajo Trails, eco-cultural tour company, Pinon, AZ, Navajo Reservation. Participants journey to sacred sites covering four states within the ancestral lands while experiencing the teachings of the Dine' "Beauty Way". Assistance has included proposal and tour development as well as assistance with tours, Periodically between 2005-2009.
  • The Oo-Oonah Community Art Center of Taos Pueblo, 2006-2008
  • Shoshonean Women's Honoring Ceremony/ Newe Sogobi Eagle Buffalo Corp, 2003
  • "In all that we do, we must live integrity to creation around us. Humans are bound inexplicably to the beauty, magnificence, and infinite power of the natural world. Our existence and spirituality are foremost linked with our relationship with our Mother Earth. She is the living source of all life."
